I was chosen to attend The UPS Store Maker Meetup Event on Thursday October 28, 2015, a truly a one of a kind experience. On this lovely fall evening, The UPS Store in association with Martha Stewart Living hosted a reception featuring an array of local small businesses and a very hard to miss Prints to Live By section. The event was a kick off celebration for the American Made Martha Stewart Summit happening in New York on November 7th. Martha Stewart’s American Made’s mission is to support American AND local, small businesses. I was in really good company at this soiree.
The UPS Store hosted their Prints to Live By area with a phenomenal calligraphy artist who created framed quotes while the event was underway. The purpose of this was so that each attendee would get their favorite quote printed and framed while at The UPS Store Maker Meetup. One thing that stood out to all at the event was the Prints to Live By booth offering printing services that are available at The UPS Store. Most people, myself included, are not aware that apart from shipping, The UPS Store has a full range of printing services online and in-store. All the small entrepreneurs at this event had cards, postcards, leaflets and banners, and these services are available at The UPS Store! The quote I used was from Rumi and it truly represents how I feel about my passion and being a small business as a makeup artist. Something valuable I took away from this event was the passion and dedication all the entrepreneurs shared when it came to their businesses. I chatted with local NY artisans, chocolatiers, wine makers, foodies and event planners. Many of them have created their businesses in their living rooms and garages and are making steps to bigger things.
While waiting for my quote to be finished at The UPS Store booth, I happened to glance over and notice Martha Stewart standing next to me. Cue in a true fan girl moment here, it was so awesome to be in her presence, I have always been a huge fan of her as a businesswoman with successes and failures. Everyone in the room including all the small business owners made a beeline for Martha Stewart. It was just hard to not notice her, she talked to every booth owner and spent time listening to their stories.
The best part of attending the event? While observing with great detail the printing process at The UPS Store Prints to Live By booth, I heard someone call my name. I was then greeted by one of the organizers of the event and she gave me the news that I had been selected to attend the Martha Stewart American Made Summit on November 7th, a sold-out event featuring some outstanding people. Receiving this news made my entire night.
Before attending the Prints to Live By event, I had decided it was time to get some makeup postcards done so I went to my local The UPS Store here in South Orange NJ. The process is quite easy, I brought my own design (you can choose from lots of designs online too). The UPS Store provides a pretty extensive choice of paper, card stock and sizes. It took about five days to get my new postcards and I am really happy with them. Now that I have my new makeup postcards newly printed at The UPS Store, I feel ready to attend the Martha Stewart American Made Summit. As a makeup artist, I rely on having my business promoted the old school way, by having professional quality printed marketing materials and most of all my own branded business cards.
