As many of you know I keep a good arsenal of skincare by my bedside during winter season. Goes without saying, I am very disciplined with what I use on my face, at my age you have to be. My skin takes a serious beating in the winter, with indoor heating, flaky skin and dry wind, I have to double it up, constantly and with vigor. I should add that this is the skincare I’ve been using almost daily with some variations since it’s been cold, depending on the day (no makeup or with makeup).
My skin is dry all year and I just turned 43 years-old this past November. I use a non foaming cleanser and tone almost every day, my toner of choice is Dermalogica Ultra Calming Toner, it’s been wonderful over the course of time. I also love hydrating mists (I tend to spritz first thing in the morning), I am between Mario Badescu Rose Water Facial Spray and True Nature Botanicals Hydrating mist.
Kreyol Essence Haitian Black Castor Oil (lavender) – I discovered Kreyol’s castor oil at a store in Wynwood, Miami FL. I loved the smell, origins and story of this brand, it is sustainably harvested from farms in Haiti. Why am I using castor oil? I am using this fabulous oil on my brows, lashes and driest areas of my skin. Castor oil is packed with omega-6 fats, proteins and vitamins, it stimulates hair follicles, boosting growth. This oil is very thick and little goes a long way, it can also be used in the body, especially your feet/ elbows. At night, I apply it on my heels and hands, feels very restorative and smells lovely. Retails $17
DermaE Hydrating Night Cream – I’ve been using this for about three weeks. While DermaE Hydrating Night Cream is meant to be used at night, I have been putting in my face in the daytime, because I love how deeply hydrating it feels as soon as I put it in my face/ neck. This formula is non greasy and feels so gentle due to its ingredients. For winter our skin needs a little extra love and DermaE Hydrating Night Cream is just right. It also happens to be one of DermaE’s best sellers. Retail value $29.50
First Aid Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration – Taking advantage of Sephora’s 2x points January promotion, I decided to give First Aid a try, as I needed a body moisturizer for winter. I’d used a sample before and loved how emollient and gentle this formula felt not only on my body but also my face. This is dubbed a “cult-favorite head-to-toe moisturizer that provides instant and long-term hydration for dry, distressed skin, even eczema”. This is a no frills, no scent formula, perfect for sensitive skin. I did my due research and now understand why Allure voted this particular moisturizer among its winners in their “Best of Beauty in 2016”. Retail value $30
Fresh Rose Face Mask – This hydrating mask is just like icing on a delectable cake, for those days when you need a dose of moisture/ tone. Fresh Rose Face Mask is a gel-like texture both refreshing and brightening due to its cucumber extract and aloe vera ingredients. Bonus, if you love the scent of rose petals, this mask smells divine! Retail value $32
