I recently visited Birchbox Soho (NYC). I must admit, I was lured in by the huge space, lights, decor and customer service was amazing. My experience with the ladies was wonderful, special thanks to Aimee for being so welcoming. If you are familiar with a box service, Birchbox is a monthly service of personalized beauty, grooming, and lifestyle samples, tailored to your taste and delivered to your mailbox it costs, $10 a month for women, $20 for men. What did I love about the Birchbox Soho store? Pretty much everything.
Products are divided by type, not by brand so if you are in the market for lipsticks, you will see an array of them, all with testers and different price points. Inside Birchbox Soho you will find makeup, skincare, nails (organized by color), hair, body, men products, fragrance, and of course a chance to build your own personal box (this I LOVED because you get to try the samples). The menu is very extensive and carries excellent brands. There is also a makeup, nails and hair bar/ salon where you can get these services done, for a very reasonable fee. The space was pristine, organized and easy to navigate. When I stopped by, my idea was to have a quick gander, wrong! I spent almost 30 minutes inside which for me, is a record. Other beauty department stores in New York City can be chaos, loud music, messy, cluttered, bored staff. Inside Birchbox, I felt relaxed, the staff was so knowledgable and courteous.
As I tested the items to make my $10 box, I ended up picking Harvey Prince Ageless fragrance which I absolutely adored, there was grapefruit in it so the choice was easy, a citrus, done! The rest of my box included the Anastasia Clear Brow gel, Frederik Fekkai Brilliant Glossing conditioner (been wanting to try it), Supergoop Eyecream SPF 37 (why not), and Caudalie Tinted Body Lotion which smells and feels divine. All this cost me $10 plus tax. Before I forget, I want to discuss the gem I found at Birchbox. While looking at the hair goods, I saw ORIBE hair products. For those who don’t know, Oribe is a hairstylist from Miami, of J-Lo celebrity status (he does her hair for many years and pretty much most award shows and photoshoots for her). After hearing about his hair range from various very respected pro hairstylists, I bought Oribe’s Creme for Style, a styling cream perfect for the most frizzy, unruly of manes (mine). I splurged. This product is $45. So far, it is amazing, takes care of my hair when I do my blowouts and use heat. I’ll probably do a separate review on the Oribe creme sometime, it is one of the best products I’ve used and I use a lot. Allure magazine has donned Oribe’s line a “Top Splurge” for 2014, and the hype is all 100% true.
Thank you Birchbox! I had such a blast and hope to be back.
